Job Summary

This role involves cutting-edge research and development of novel Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) within the Fraunhofer-Attract project "JCAS-PRISM," focusing on integrating 6G Joint Communication and Sensing (JCAS) systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for the conceptualization, electromagnetic simulation, optimization, and realization of RIS structures, contributing to adaptive 6G wireless systems that enhance efficiency and environmental sensing. Day-to-day tasks include designing and building RIS prototypes, selecting materials, managing fabrication processes, and integrating these structures into communication and radar systems. This position requires a strong background in high-frequency engineering, proficiency in electromagnetic simulation tools (CST, HFSS, COMSOL), and programming skills (Python/MATLAB). The associate will also supervise students and publish research findings in high-ranking international conferences, making this an excellent opportunity for career growth and scientific visibility.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or equivalent (Diplom) in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, Physics, or a comparable field, completed with above-average results.

Experience

  • Professional experience in high-frequency technology
  • Experience in antenna design or development of passive/active HF structures
  • Experience in electromagnetic simulation
  • Experience in circuit design and PCB design is beneficial
  • Experience in supervising students (theses or internships)

Additional

  • The position is initially limited to 2 years. The role can be filled at the Aachen or Wachtberg location. Full-time work week is 39 hours, part-time is possible. Possibility of pursuing a PhD is offered.
