Job Summary

This role involves shaping the future of optical measurement and optronic analysis systems within the Fraunhofer Institute for Optronics, System Technology, and Image Evaluation (IOSB). The successful candidate, an Engineer or Physicist, will join the Optronics department to research and develop complex imaging sensor and analysis systems. Day-to-day tasks include developing and implementing Computer Vision algorithms for object detection and tracking using optical data, and applying control engineering principles to sensor tracking, including designing and implementing suitable control loops. You will be responsible for integrating image processing and control technology into complex experimental setups, optimizing the overall system, and conducting experiments for iterative improvement. This position requires strong interdisciplinary skills in areas like image processing, mechanics, control engineering, and optics, focusing on high-precision experimental systems from concept to completion, and includes participation in multi-day measurement campaigns both domestically and internationally.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or ideally a PhD in Engineering Sciences, Physics, or a comparable field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in engineering or physics (preferred, but not mandatory)
  • Foundational knowledge in either object detection and tracking using optical sensor data OR control engineering for mechanical tracking systems
  • Practical experience in the setup, operation, and optimization of optical or mechatronic systems
  • Experience working on projects benefiting the German Federal Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) (implied readiness)

Languages

German (Fluent)English (Intermediate)

Additional

  • Willingness to participate in projects that benefit the German Federal Armed Forces (Bundeswehr). Willingness to participate in multi-day measurement campaigns domestically and internationally. The position is initially limited to 3 years, with extension intended. Requires a scientific university degree (Master/PhD).
