Job Summary

This position offers an engaging opportunity for a Doctoral Researcher to join the Max Rubner-Institut in Karlsruhe, focusing on the safety and quality of fruits, vegetables, and herbs. The role involves working within the interdisciplinary project "VFT4Hero," investigating the impact of indoor cultivation parameters and beneficial microorganisms on the content of valuable secondary plant compounds and yield. Day-to-day tasks include planning, executing, evaluating, and documenting chemical and microbiological experiments, specifically focusing on mycotoxin-forming and pathogenic fungi. Key responsibilities span chemical analytics, including LC/MS and potentially GCxGC/MS methods, as well as microbiological work involving microorganism growth trials and fungal-plant interactions. The ideal candidate holds a Master's degree in Biology or a related field, possesses practical experience with chromatographic techniques (HPLC), sample preparation, and strong knowledge of microbiological and molecular biological methods, particularly with filamentous fungi. This role requires close collaboration with project partners, presenting results at conferences, and publishing findings in scientific journals, offering a chance to contribute significantly to federal research in nutrition and food science.

Master's degree in Biology or a comparable qualification in a related field

Experience

  • Practical experience with chromatographic procedures, especially HPLC systems
  • Practical experience in sample preparation (homogenization, extraction)
  • Knowledge and practical experience in microbiological and molecular biological work, including sterile techniques
  • Experience with statistical evaluation of analytical data (desirable)
  • Experience processing plant-based foods (desirable)
