Job Summary
This temporary, full-time Research Associate position at the Thünen Institute of Sea Fisheries in Bremerhaven involves contributing to the innovative "KUNO" project, which focuses on developing a sustainable, economically viable coastal fishing vessel for the North Sea. The role operates at the critical intersection of technology, fishing practice, and socio-economics. Day-to-day responsibilities include collecting and analyzing international business fisheries data via focus groups, conducting comparative profitability analyses of different production systems, and contributing to stakeholder surveys regarding the acceptance of sustainable fishing methods. Candidates must possess a university degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) in a relevant field (e.g., Fisheries, Marine, Economic, or Agricultural Sciences) with a strong economic focus, coupled with solid expertise in business administration (e.g., corporate accounting or management). This role offers significant scientific freedom and high practical relevance, requiring excellent communication skills in both German and English to engage effectively with both scientific peers and industry stakeholders.
Required Skills
Education
Completed university degree (M.Sc. / University Diploma) in Fisheries, Marine, Social, Agricultural, Economic, or comparable sciences with an economic focus. Doctorate is desired but not mandatory.
Experience
- Professional experience in collecting and evaluating international economic fisheries data
- Experience with comparative international profitability analysis of production systems
- Experience with socio-scientific methods (e.g., interviews, surveys, focus groups) is helpful
- Professional experience in interdisciplinary collaboration at the interface of technology, economics, and society
Languages
Additional
- Willingness to undertake multi-day business trips domestically and internationally. If holding an international degree, a certificate evaluation from the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB) is required upon successful application.
