Job Summary

The Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute in Braunschweig is seeking a part-time Chemical-Technical Assistant (50% / 19.5 hours/week) to support research focused on sustainable agriculture and circular economy, particularly in biomass utilization and the creation of biodegradable polymers. This role involves the hands-on execution of experiments related to the digestion and modification of agricultural biomass using biocatalytic, chemocatalytic, and polymer-technical methods. Key responsibilities include conducting product characterization analyses using chromatographic, thermoanalytical, and wet chemical techniques, processing data with specialized software and MS Excel, and assisting with laboratory organization, equipment maintenance, and safety compliance. The successful candidate should have a recognized qualification as a Chemical-Technical Assistant or Chemical Laboratory Technician, possess a strong understanding of chemical processes, and be proficient in standard Office programs. This fixed-term position (until February 2029) offers meaningful work within an interdisciplinary research environment.

Required Skills

Education

State-recognized certification as a Chemical-Technical Assistant, or completed training as a Chemical Laboratory Technician, or equivalent qualification

Experience

  • Professional experience in chemical analysis and material testing procedures
  • Experience in the production and analysis of bio-based substances (advantageous)
  • Experience in handling technical laboratory equipment
