Job Summary

This role is a stimulating opportunity for a Scientific Researcher to contribute to plant protection research, specifically focusing on the potato wart pathogen (*Synchytrium endobioticum*) at the Institute for Plant Protection in Field Crops and Grassland. Day-to-day tasks involve the scientific investigation of issues related to the pathogen, optimizing soil sampling techniques for detecting resting spores, and advancing molecular diagnostic methods at the DNA and RNA level. A key responsibility is refining extraction procedures for the pathogen's resting spores. The ideal candidate must possess a Master's degree or equivalent in Biotechnology, Agricultural Sciences, Biology, or a related natural science field, coupled with strong phytomedical knowledge and expertise in scientific experimental design. Excellent organizational, communication, and teamwork skills are essential, along with proficiency in both German and English for documentation, presentation, and publication in international scientific journals. This is a fixed-term, part-time position (9.25 hours per week) until November 2026.
