Job Summary

This role is part of the 'FutureWheatProtein' interdisciplinary research project at the Julius Kühn Institute, focusing on maintaining wheat protein quality amidst climate change. As a Web Developer and Programmer, you will develop automated workflows and data integration pipelines across various programming languages to support climate and plant-atmosphere modeling. Your daily responsibilities include implementing data management concepts following FAIR principles, processing extensive experimental data, and managing large-scale modeling datasets. You will also collaborate closely with an international team of scientists and biostatisticians to organize project meetings and produce technical reports. This position offers a unique opportunity to apply technical expertise to critical environmental and agricultural challenges within a public service framework (TVöD). The role is based in Braunschweig and offers a collaborative, solution-oriented environment with flexible working models to support work-life balance.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (B.Sc. or Diploma) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Agricultural Sciences, Forestry, Environmental Sciences, Geography, or a comparable discipline.

Experience

  • Professional experience in frontend and backend development of web applications using JavaScript, Django/Python, or PHP
  • Demonstrated experience working with relational databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL
  • Practical experience in using REST APIs and Git versioning tools
  • Experience in handling geodata or knowledge in the field of geoinformatics is preferred
  • Experience in developing automated workflows and data pipelines

Additional

  • The position is a part-time role (19.5 hours per week) fixed-term until March 31, 2029. Must be able to start by April 1, 2026. The role is subject to the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD E 11).
