Job Summary

The Julius Kühn Institute in Berlin is seeking a Technical Assistant to support the 'InSolNet' project focused on analyzing potato breeding lines for resistance traits. This role involves comprehensive plant analysis, specifically investigating low-molecular-weight contents (metabolites) in potato plants under varying environmental conditions. Day-to-day tasks include cultivating and maintaining potato plants in phytotrons, greenhouses, and fields, taking plant samples, and preparing them for UPLC-MS-based metabolite profiling. The assistant will also conduct bioactivity tests on potato pests (insects, microorganisms) in a laboratory setting. Key qualifications include a background as a biological, chemical, or agricultural technical assistant, experience in conducting lab and field trials with plants, and basic knowledge of pest bioassays. This is a crucial role supporting the breeding of resistant and healthy potato varieties, offering an interesting and demanding full-time position until June 2027.

Education

Completed vocational training as a Biological, Chemical, or Agricultural Technical Assistant (BTA, CTA, LTA) or as a Biology Laboratory Technician, or equivalent qualification.

Experience

  • Professional experience as a Biological, Chemical, or Agricultural Technical Assistant, or equivalent qualification
  • Experience in conducting laboratory and field trials with plants
  • Knowledge and interest in bioassays involving potato pests (fungi, bacteria, insects)
  • Fundamental experience with various sample extraction methods

  • Class B (III) driver's license and willingness to drive official vehicles and undertake potential multi-day business trips (desirable). The position is full-time (39.0 hours/week) and limited until June 30, 2027.
