Job Summary

The Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde (IOW) is seeking a Doctoral Researcher for a 3-year, 75% position (30 hours/week) in Physical Oceanography, pending project funding. The successful candidate will join the "Interaction of Waves and Sediment in the Baltic Sea (ISSO)" project. Day-to-day tasks involve simulating wave-driven sediment transport in the shallow, practically tideless waters of the Baltic Sea. This includes coupling existing current and wave models, expanding them with a sediment transport module, and validating simulations using field data and satellite remote sensing. The role requires analyzing, interpreting, publishing, and presenting results at national and international conferences. This position is ideal for candidates with a strong background in physical oceanography, meteorology, physics, or mathematics, and offers an opportunity to combine theoretical basic research with applied resource research in collaboration with the Federal Waterways Engineering and Research Institute (BAW) and the University of Victoria.
