Job Summary
This position is for an enthusiastic PhD candidate to join the 'Childhood Obesity & Metabolic Research' group at Leipzig University, focusing on translational research into healthy childhood development. The role involves dissecting the genetic predisposition and early origins of common diseases like obesity in children. Day-to-day tasks include performing quantitative analyses of clinical and multi-omics data, applying bioinformatic and statistical tools for integrative analysis, and characterizing clinical, molecular, and environmental factors contributing to obesity risk and progression. The successful candidate will collaborate with national and international partners (DZKJ) and contribute significantly to joint data analyses and publications. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual with a background in life sciences and computational methods to engage in high-impact interdisciplinary research bridging basic science and clinical medicine.
Required Skills
Education
Master’s degree in life sciences (biology, biochemistry, biomedicine, genetics, computational sciences, molecular medicine, nutritional science, etc.)
Experience
- Strong motivation to work with quantitative methods and computational tools
- Understanding of (epi) genetic background and biology of common disease (e.g., obesity)
- Ideally, experience in data analysis using R and/or Python
- Solid background in statistics and basic knowledge of epidemiology

- This is a fixed-term contract for 2 years (with possibility of extension, dependent on project funding/third-party funds). The position is part-time (26 hours/week).
