Job Summary

This role is for a dedicated Application Manager within the Federal Office of Administration (BVA) in Germany, focusing on building, maintaining, and evolving complex IT applications crucial for public security and EU Smart Borders initiatives. The successful candidate will drive the technical development of one or more IT applications, taking responsibility for integration into the BVA infrastructure, including Linux-based deployment. Day-to-day tasks involve acting as the primary interface between external developers, testers, and internal stakeholders (IT Operations, Product Owners). The role requires planning and reviewing releases, designing efficiency tests, ensuring IT security, and providing third-level support for error analysis and resolution. Ideal candidates possess proven experience in agile software development, DevOps practices, and strong knowledge of Linux and databases, contributing significantly to the transformation towards modern technologies like Kubernetes and Continuous Integration within a collaborative, agile team environment.

Required Skills

Education

Completed IHK training as an IT Specialist (Application Development or System Integration) OR University degree (minimum Bachelor's) in Computer Science OR University degree in another field combined with demonstrable professional experience in agile software development OR Demonstrable professional experience in software development (minimum 2 years)

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in technical software development activities (e.g., object-oriented programming, CI/CD, DevOps, Technical Application Management)
  • Professional experience in agile software development (required for non-IT degree holders)
  • Experience in 2nd/3rd-Level Support (Advantageous)
  • Experience in managing external service providers (Advantageous)
