Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Research Associate to join the newly established Collaborative Research Center TRR 420 "CONCENTRATE" at the University of Greifswald, funded by the DFG. The core mission is to decipher the molecular and microbial processes leading to the stabilization of glycans in the ocean, focusing specifically on the silica cell walls of diatoms and the calcium carbonate scales of coccolithophores. Day-to-day tasks involve culturing microalgae, isolating and characterizing mineral-associated organic material, analyzing glycan binding, and performing genetic engineering on diatoms. The role requires extensive microscopic investigation (light, fluorescence, electron microscopy) and collaboration with the Microbial Ecophysiology group at the University of Bremen. This position is part-time (65%) and offers the possibility for academic qualification, specifically preparation for a doctoral degree, making it ideal for aspiring researchers in biological disciplines.
