Job Summary

This permanent, full-time position as a Biological Laboratory Technician at the TUM School of Life Sciences focuses on cutting-edge research into the intestinal microbiome and its role in protecting against gastrointestinal infections. The successful candidate will be responsible for the independent planning, execution, and documentation of experiments using aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, specifically synthetic bacterial communities. Key daily tasks include applying standard micro- and molecular biological methods (e.g., PCR, DNA extraction, cloning) and optimizing new techniques. A critical component of this role is autonomous lab management, including safety protocols, equipment maintenance, and developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Candidates must hold a BTA, CTA, MTA, or equivalent qualification, possess proven experience in molecular biology, and be willing to participate in animal experiments. Strong organizational skills, a systematic approach to documentation, and proficiency in both German and English are essential for joining this international research team.

Required Skills

Education

Completed professional training as a Biological Technical Assistant (BTA), Chemical Technical Assistant (CTA), Medical Technical Assistant (MTA), or Chemistry/Biology Laboratory Assistant equivalent.

Experience

  • Professional experience in applying micro- and molecular biological methods
  • Experience in culturing anaerobic and human pathogenic bacteria or willingness to learn these techniques
  • Experience in laboratory management and safety procedures
  • Experience working in a scientific laboratory (S1 areas preferred)
  • Willingness to participate in animal experimental activities
