Job Summary

This role is a temporary, part-time Scientific Researcher position within the Institute for Forest Protection in Quedlinburg, focusing on the 'FICHTENRETTER' project. The researcher will investigate the ecophysiology of spruce trees under stress (simulated windthrow and drought) to better understand their attraction potential for bark beetles. Day-to-day tasks include maintaining field infrastructure, collecting and analyzing ecophysiological parameters (photosynthesis, respiration, volatile organic compound emissions), and conducting laboratory analysis of VOC profiles. The role requires close collaboration with project partners, generating statistics and reports, publishing findings in international journals, and potentially supervising a Master's student. Ideal candidates possess a Master's degree in Forestry, Biology, or Plant Sciences, experience with tree-insect interactions, and strong organizational and communication skills in both German and English.

Master's degree, University Diploma, or comparable qualification in Forestry, Biology, Plant Sciences, or a comparable discipline

Experience

  • Comprehensive experience (preferred) with approaches focusing on tree-insect interactions
  • Experience (ideally) in the evaluation and interpretation of volatile organic compound (VOC) signals
  • Professional experience in self-reliant and independent work
  • Experience in supervising students (Master's level)
