Job Summary

This Research Associate role at the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) focuses on providing scientific advisory services within the "Recycling Potential" project. You will methodically assess raw material supply from current and future recycling streams, focusing specifically on critical and strategic materials and their recovery potential from emerging technologies. Key daily activities include analyzing global raw material markets (supply and demand trends), investigating the technical and economic viability of various recycling technologies, and advancing the application of the UNFC framework to secondary raw materials. You will also conduct detailed case studies involving data collection and analysis on component material flows. This position is essential for knowledge transfer between industry and research, aiming to identify market opportunities for German industry. A Master's degree in Environmental Engineering or a related field, coupled with specific experience in metal recycling economics and UNFC application, is required. The role is designed to support professional qualification.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Technology, Technical Environmental Protection, Environmental Engineering, or an equivalent degree related to Metal Recycling.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of professional experience in the evaluation of recycling projects
  • Minimum 1 year of professional experience in the metal recycling industry
  • Experience in applying UNCF (United Framework Classification for Resources) for secondary raw materials
  • Project experience in evaluating technical processes for recycling raw materials
