Job Summary

The Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) is seeking a Scientific Researcher to join the BMFTR-funded "NiColaus" project. This role focuses on extracting Nickel and Cobalt from European lateritic primary raw materials through laterite bioleaching, aiming to develop a suitable processing method at a pilot scale in collaboration with project partners. Day-to-day responsibilities include designing, executing, and scientifically evaluating lab experiments related to agglomeration of fine-grained industrial residues (like basalt rock flour), testing these agglomerates for suitability in bioleaching, and optimizing the process using bioreactors and percolators. The researcher will also conduct comparative chemical leaching studies and be responsible for presenting and publishing results in reports, peer-reviewed journals, and at specialized conferences. This position is designed for professional qualification and requires a background in natural sciences or engineering with experience in (bio)hydrometallurgy and strong organizational skills.
