Job Summary

The Technical University of Dresden (TUD), an Excellence University, is seeking a Research Associate/Doctoral Candidate to join the BMBF-funded 'ROBINIE' junior research group within the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. This role focuses on developing, improving, and implementing concepts for wall-flush sensors designed to measure condensation film thickness in large-scale thermo-hydraulic test facilities. The sensors must withstand extreme conditions, including temperatures up to 300°C in water/steam environments at saturation pressure. Day-to-day responsibilities include sensor processing (e.g., thick-film ceramic technology), developing suitable joining processes (e.g., ceramic-to-stainless steel), evaluating sensor function, and characterizing assemblies for tightness and resistance using methods like X-ray analysis and autoclave tests. The candidate will support their work with simulations, collaborate with scientific and industrial partners, and publish research findings nationally and internationally. This position offers a unique opportunity for scientific qualification, typically leading to a PhD, in a highly practical and dynamic research environment.

Required Skills

Education

Very good to good scientific university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, ideally in Electronic Packaging, Measurement and Control Technology, Automation Technology, Microelectronics, Sensor Technology, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics.

Experience

  • Practical, technological experience in sensor manufacturing and joining processes (brazing, welding) is desired
  • Experience in optimizing technological processes is desired
  • Practical experience in material characterization and analysis (e.g., metallography, SEM, optical measurement) is advantageous
  • Ability and willingness to work independently and solution-oriented in a team
  • Inter- and multidisciplinary thinking
