Job Summary

This is a unique opportunity to lead the conservation and monitoring efforts for amphibians and reptiles across the state of Brandenburg, Germany, within the State Office for the Environment (LfU). The specialist will be responsible for developing and coordinating statewide species protection programs, providing technical guidance for implementation, and setting methodological standards for monitoring these species. A key part of the role involves leading the Species Competence Center for Amphibians and Reptiles in Linum, managing a team of volunteers, and conducting data analysis for official reports (such as the FFH report and Red Lists). The ideal candidate possesses a relevant Master's degree in biology or a related field, outstanding zoological expertise in herpetology, and experience with GIS and data management, coupled with proven leadership and strong organizational skills.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Diplom or Master) in Biology, Geoecology, Nature Conservation, Landscape Planning, or comparable fields

Experience

  • Professional experience in the collection and assessment of amphibian and reptile species
  • Experience in data evaluation according to scientific questions
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the goals, content, and enforcement of Natura 2000 directives
  • Experience in the practical implementation of landscape management measures
  • Leadership experience required
