Job Summary
This role is for a Biological-Technical Assistant (BTA) within the Food Quality Preservation department at the renowned Fraunhofer IVV institute in Freising. The core mission is to secure the long-term quality of food by researching spoilage processes and developing innovative preservation techniques. Day-to-day responsibilities involve handling apathogenic and pathogenic microorganisms (Risk Groups 1 and 2) under stringent sterile and safety conditions. You will conduct microbiological investigations of food and packaging using culture-based methods, maintain the microbial strain collection, and perform functional checks on essential laboratory equipment. A key technical focus includes preparing spore suspensions, determining their resistance to various treatments (UV, heat, H2O2), and developing procedures for artificial contamination. The position also requires planning and executing test series to evaluate decontamination systems, sometimes involving travel to customer sites. This position requires a BTA qualification or equivalent, professional experience in microbiological analytics, and offers engagement in cutting-edge research within a leading European organization.
