Job Summary

This role is for a highly motivated Research Associate and Doctoral Candidate focusing on developing new manufacturing technologies and materials, specifically concerning the alloy development of duplex steels for Additive Manufacturing. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing a research project, conducting material testing using modern methodologies, and preparing comprehensive reports and scientific publications. Key qualifications include a Master's degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics, coupled with strong expertise in metallographic characterization, ferrous-based materials (especially duplex steels), and computer-aided material development methods (e.g., Calphad, MATLAB, Python). The position requires active participation in teaching (4 teaching hours per week) and supervision of student theses. This is a full-time, fixed-term position (up to 3 years initially) designed to facilitate the completion of a doctorate in a dynamic, international research environment with excellent experimental infrastructure.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree (or equivalent) in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics; Doctoral studies (PhD) is the goal of this qualifying position.

Experience

  • Experience in setting up and conducting experiments
  • Practical experience in additive manufacturing and material testing of steels (highly desirable)
  • Experience in handling computer-aided methods of material development
  • Engagement in teaching (4 teaching hours per week)
