Job Summary

This role involves actively and independently contributing to the system for assessing and improving air quality within the State Office for the Environment (LfU) in Potsdam. The specialist will be responsible for evaluating air quality according to European directives, assessing the impact of pollutants on humans and the environment, and ensuring the implementation of Europe-wide air pollution control standards. Day-to-day tasks include coordinating measurement, evaluation, and reporting obligations, developing assessment criteria, providing expert opinions on pollutant mechanisms, and handling 'Task-Force' duties related to potential limit exceedances. The position also requires technical and organizational responsibility for data acquisition, data management, and information security within the UBIS specialized information system, requiring strong organizational skills and technical expertise in environmental data analysis.

Required Skills

Education

Successfully completed scientific university degree or Master's degree in relevant fields, including Technical Environmental Protection, Geosciences, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Meteorology, Environmental Informatics, or equivalent studies; or eligibility for the higher technical service career path in environmental administration or spatial planning.

Experience

  • Professional experience in applying standard software (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Knowledge and experience in statistical evaluation methods for large data sets
  • Knowledge of specific effect mechanisms of pollutants on the environment and human health
  • Knowledge regarding Quality Assurance (QA) of environmental data
