Doctoral Researcher (Physics, Chemistry, Nanosciences) | Physiker (m/w/d)
Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB)
Job Summary
The Physical-Technical Federal Institute (PTB) in Braunschweig is seeking a Doctoral Researcher to investigate two-dimensional (2D) heterostructures, specifically epitaxial graphene on SiC with intercalated metal layers. This role focuses on systematically varying liquid-phase intercalation mechanisms, particularly the Liquid-Metal-Intercalation Technique (LiMIT), to control the growth and stability of metal alloys under confined conditions. Day-to-day tasks include advancing LiMIT technology, experimentally studying 2D metal alloys regarding their structure and electronic properties, and applying advanced spectroscopic and microscopic techniques (AFM, Raman, ARPES, XPS). The successful candidate will also conduct accompanying Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations using the Linux Compute Cluster and quantify metrological parameters like lattice strain. This position is ideal for candidates with a strong background in physical chemistry of surfaces and interfaces, offering the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research within the DFG research group FOR 5242, leading to scientific publications and presentations.
