Physicist / PhD Candidate | Physiker (m/w/d)
Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB)
Job Summary
This role at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) involves advancing the development of optical clocks using stored 173Yb+ ions within the 'Time and Frequency' department. As a PhD candidate, you will be responsible for automating clock operations, investigating stability improvements through multi-ion interrogation and entanglement, and developing protocols for hyperfine transitions. The position requires a high degree of experimental skill to determine systematic frequency shifts and establish uncertainty budgets. You will extend existing Python-based experiment controls using ARTIQ and enhance laser setups. A unique aspect of this position is the ability to focus entirely on your doctoral research without teaching obligations, supported by PTB's world-class infrastructure and international research network. You will also participate in comparative measurements to search for physics beyond the Standard Model and present your findings at international conferences.
