Job Summary

This role, based in Braunschweig, is a unique opportunity for a Doctoral Researcher to advance cutting-edge measurement standards within the Physical-Technical Federal Institute (PTB). The core focus is on the development and optimization of a novel hybrid microscopy instrument for industrial surface metrology applications, conducted within the TransMet project in close collaboration with an industry partner. Daily responsibilities include experimental testing, iterative refinement of the functional prototype, conducting detailed measurements for characterization and calibration, and rigorous scientific documentation and publication of results. Candidates must hold a Master's degree in Engineering Science, Physics, or a related field, possess strong foundational knowledge in metrology, instrumentation development, and proficiency in programming languages like LabVIEW and C/C++. This position allows the candidate to operate directly at the intersection of fundamental research and practical industrial application, offering significant professional development over the three-year term.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree (Diplom/Master) in Engineering Science, Physics, or a comparable field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in instrumentation development and testing
  • Experience in the development of functional prototypes
  • Experience conducting measurements for characterization and calibration
  • Experience with Interference Microscopy and/or Scanning Probe Microscopy (advantageous)
