Job Summary

This role involves developing and implementing advanced calculation and safety concepts for critical high-temperature components, specifically gas turbine blades, focusing on various damage mechanisms such as fatigue, creep, and oxidation. Day-to-day activities include finalizing safety concepts, coordinating technical results with subject matter experts, and evaluating inspection and operational data to create statistical models for damage progression. A key responsibility is adapting lifetime assessment concepts for real-time applications and responding to urgent customer inquiries regarding operational changes affecting component lifespan. The ideal candidate holds a Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, possesses multi-year experience in creating calculation concepts for high-temperature components, and has strong foundational knowledge in statistical and probabilistic methods, including the use of Machine Learning for computational efficiency. This position offers the opportunity to implement concepts within a Digital Twin environment, working collaboratively with international, interdisciplinary teams in Germany, the USA, and India, contributing directly to significant cost savings and the decarbonization efforts of the energy sector.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Master's or PhD) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, or comparable field, ideally with a focus on calculating the mechanical integrity of components.

Experience

  • Multi-year experience in creating calculation concepts for the lifespan of high-temperature components
  • Relevant experience in the field of turbomachinery (desirable)
  • Experience in creating surrogate models and using Machine Learning to reduce calculation times
  • Professional experience in collaborating with local and international teams
