Job Summary

This role is a full-time, four-year fixed-term position focused on research and development within the Data Science and Mobility in Germany (MiD) domain, specifically analyzing mobility behavior using GPS data. The successful candidate will join the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) in Bergisch Gladbach, working within the 'Digitalization Road System' staff unit. Day-to-day tasks involve developing and validating AI-based procedures, including identifying data sources for training machine learning models, designing data systems for large-scale data storage, and continuously evolving the methodology and system architecture (especially the API). The role also requires scientific oversight of software architectures, defining technical requirements for the backend and API, and managing project backlogs. A key component is the dissemination of knowledge through data visualization, interactive dashboards, and scientific publications, contributing significantly to the long-term 'Mobility in Germany' study. Candidates must hold a Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or a comparable field, and ideally possess expertise in algorithms, AI-based methods, and handling large datasets.
