Job Summary
This role is for an IT Security Expert within the German Federal Cyber Security Authority (BSI), focusing on developing and ensuring cyber security standards for future-oriented digitalization fields, specifically Online Access to Administrative Services and Online Elections. The expert will be responsible for creating IT security architectures, developing standards like Technical Guidelines and Protection Profiles (Common Criteria), and conducting security analyses. Day-to-day tasks include leading IT projects, participating in national and EU-level working groups, and creating Proof of Concepts to validate the feasibility of security requirements. This position offers the opportunity to shape Germany's secure digital future, requiring strong technical knowledge in areas like cryptography and web application security, coupled with strategic thinking and excellent communication skills to present work at conferences and congresses.
Required Skills
Education
Completed or near-completion university degree (Diplom/Master) in Computer Science, Technical Informatics, IT Security, Physics, Mathematics, Communications/Electrical Engineering, IT Management, Administrative or Business Informatics, or a comparable relevant technical/IT-focused field.
Experience
- Practical experience in conducting IT projects
- Initial experience in the conception and development of innovative IT solutions and associated security analysis
- Initial experience in the architecture and securing of web applications
- Ideal: Experience in the field of Online Elections (e.g., end-to-end verifiability) or administrative digitalization (e.g., XÖV standards)
- Ideal: Practical experience handling Information Security Management Systems (ISMS)

- Willingness to undergo an expanded security clearance check (Sicherheitsüberprüfung nach § 9 SÜG). Willingness to participate in further training and undertake occasional business trips. Foreign degrees require proof of equivalence from the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB).
