Job Summary
This role involves the independent planning, operation, and monitoring of the municipal communication network for the City of Darmstadt. The specialist will be responsible for configuring, operating, and overseeing the network management system, including VPNs, WLAN networks, and Efficient IP services (DNS/DHCP). A core part of the job is systematic troubleshooting using diagnostic systems, coordinating resolutions with external service providers and Third-Level Support. Furthermore, the position requires participation in projects for the installation and expansion of network systems, administration of firewall components (specifically Fortigate), and maintaining accurate data network documentation. This is a full-time, permanent position offering a stable work environment within a family-conscious personnel policy, making it an attractive opportunity for experienced network professionals.
Required Skills
Education
Completed university degree (minimum Bachelor / Diploma [FH]) in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a comparable field, OR a comparable qualification, OR a relevant completed three-year vocational training (e.g., System Electronics Technician).
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience in Network Technology (required with Bachelor's/Diploma)
- Minimum 4 years of relevant professional experience in Network Technology (required with comparable qualification)
- Minimum 6 years of relevant professional experience in Network Technology (required with 3-year vocational training)
- Several years of practical experience in operating complex network infrastructures
- Extensive knowledge and experience in Routing, Switching, and Fabric

- Driver's license Class B; Physical suitability for lifting and carrying up to 5 kg; Willingness to perform fieldwork and work outside regular working hours; Suitability for screen work.
