Job Summary

This role involves working at the intersection of technology, research, and communication within a federal agency focused on cutting-edge cybersecurity and key technologies. The Natural Scientist will systematically observe national and international research landscapes, identify emerging trends, and evaluate innovation potential in cybersecurity. Key responsibilities include designing and executing strategic foresight, trend, and scenario analyses, as well as technology impact assessments to identify future research fields. The successful candidate will prepare proposals for initiating new projects, manage external service providers, and actively build and maintain innovation ecosystems and networks with research institutions and startups. This position requires strong communication and moderation skills, a high degree of agility, and the ability to quickly integrate into complex technical areas, contributing directly to Germany's digital sovereignty and technological leadership.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Master/Diplom univ.) in Natural Sciences (e.g., Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or comparable fields)

Experience

  • Interest and ideally experience in cybersecurity or related key technologies
  • Experience in applied basic research, research and development, or innovation management (desirable)
  • Methodological knowledge in Trend and Foresight analysis, Monitoring, Scouting, Scanning, and Strategic Foresight (desirable)

Additional

  • Initial fixed-term contract for 2 years; Willingness to travel domestically and internationally; Must undergo a security clearance check (Sicherheitsüberprüfung) according to the Security Clearance Act (SÜG).
