Job Summary

This role involves joining the Strain Development Department to apply genetic engineering expertise to crucial R&D and cross-functional projects. The Scientist will be responsible for designing, executing, and analyzing complex molecular biology experiments, specifically focusing on developing and optimizing constructs for gene expression, modification, or knockout in eukaryotic systems. Day-to-day tasks include independently planning genetic engineering workflows, troubleshooting challenges, and generating high-quality data to support strain development goals. A key aspect of the position is providing scientific and disciplinary leadership for two technical assistants, ensuring ISO-compliant quality standards, and evaluating new genetic engineering technologies. Candidates should possess a Master’s or Ph.D. in a relevant scientific field, coupled with significant hands-on experience in genetic engineering and fluency in both German and English, offering a permanent contract and flexible working options in Freiburg.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in genetic engineering with a Master's degree
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in genetic engineering with a Ph.D.
  • Experience in construct design for eukaryotic systems
  • Experience with data analysis and design of experiments
  • Experience in identifying and evaluating new genetic engineering-related technologies
  • Experience in providing disciplinary and scientific leadership
