Job Summary

This role offers a unique opportunity to work as a Biological-Technical Assistant within the Thünen Institute of Fisheries Ecology in Bremerhaven, contributing directly to the high-impact ReOyster-Hatchery project focused on restoring European oyster reefs in the German North Sea. The successful candidate will be responsible for the independent planning, preparation, and execution of the oyster production season. Key day-to-day tasks include managing broodstock conditioning, cultivating microalgae for feeding, supervising larval rearing and settlement on various substrates, and ensuring post-season maintenance. The position requires state certification as a Biological-Technical Assistant or a comparable qualification, coupled with a strong technical understanding of aquaculture and practical experience with live aquatic organisms, particularly in seawater hatchery work or oyster/microalgae culture. This is a vital role for marine conservation, offering involvement in dynamic, interdisciplinary research, though it demands high flexibility, including readiness for on-call duties, weekend shifts, and occasional multi-day fieldwork trips.
