Job Summary

This full-time, fixed-term position as a Biological-Technical Assistant supports a critical research project at the Thünen Institute of Wood Research in Hamburg-Bergedorf, focusing on the European charcoal trade and the new EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The role is highly technical, involving the meticulous preparation of solid wood, charcoal, and briquette samples using techniques like microtomy and maceration for anatomical species determination. Day-to-day tasks include preparing samples for 3D microscopy and micro-CT scans, generating digital micro-images using transmitted and incident light microscopy, and applying specific staining techniques. The assistant will also be responsible for the digital archiving of slides and the collection, evaluation, and compilation of research data. Candidates must possess a qualification as a State-certified Biological-Technical Assistant or Biology Laboratory Technician, coupled with practical experience in preparing plant tissues for microscopic analysis. Required Skills

Education

State-certified Biological-Technical Assistant, completed training as a Biology Laboratory Technician, or comparable qualification.
