Job Summary
As an IT Specialist for Backup and HPC at the Thünen Institute, you will be responsible for the conception, operation, and continuous development of the central backup infrastructure and High-Performance Computing clusters. Your daily activities include monitoring system availability, optimizing performance, and troubleshooting complex environments involving virtualization and SANs. You will play a critical role in automating processes using scripting and Infrastructure-as-Code tools while ensuring strict compliance with IT security and data protection regulations (GDPR). This position is ideal for technical professionals who enjoy a mix of strategic design and hands-on system administration. You will act as a consultant for internal research teams, helping them navigate backup strategies and HPC utilization. Required Skills
Education
University degree (B.Sc.) in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a comparable field. International degrees require a Statement of Comparability from the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB).
Experience
- Professional experience in the operation of backup solutions such as Data Domain, Networker, or Veeam
- Experience in operating virtualization clusters with GPUs and associated SAN environments
- Proven experience in Windows and Linux system administration
- Experience in process automation using scripting languages and Infrastructure-as-Code tools
- Experience in documenting system architectures and technical changes

- Willingness to undergo a federal security clearance (Sicherheitsüberprüfung) is mandatory. Occasional short business trips for server installation at other locations are required. Valid Class B driver's license is preferred.
