PhD Position in Metabolic Microbiome Modeling | PhD position (m/f/d) in „Metabolic microbiome modelling"
Universitätsklinikum Schleswig-Holstein
Job Summary
This PhD position focuses on applying systems biological approaches to understand the role of the microbiome in health and disease, specifically utilizing constraint-based metabolic modeling. The successful candidate will integrate large-scale multi-omics data (microbiome, transcriptomic, metabolomic, genomic) to explore metabolic interactions within gut bacterial communities, aiming to uncover unknown cross-feeding interactions in the SIHUMIx model microbiome. This involves building a computational model of SIHUMIx to predict new interactions and community responses to disturbances, with predictions tested experimentally by a partner lab. Candidates should possess a background in bioinformatics, systems biology, or a related field, strong programming skills (R, Python, Linux), and essential experience in metabolic modeling and next-generation sequencing data analysis. This role offers a challenging interdisciplinary research environment within a DFG-funded priority area, providing access to extensive PhD support programs.
