Job Summary
This role involves executing water law permitting procedures, primarily for drainage systems and similar operational facilities of federal railways in Germany. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing application documents against permitting requirements (especially concerning the EU Water Framework Directive's non-deterioration and improvement mandates), conducting site inspections, and communicating extensively with applicants, experts, and planning offices. The case worker will also be responsible for official participation procedures, assessing water management impacts, and maintaining the EBA water registry. Additionally, the role includes conducting water body supervision to ensure compliance with granted permits and representing the Federal Railway Authority (EBA) to external bodies. Candidates must possess a relevant Bachelor's or FH Diploma in fields such as Environmental Engineering, Water Management, or Civil Engineering, along with strong organizational skills and the ability to act independently and decisively. This is a five-year fixed-term position offering flexible working hours and the opportunity to work across various locations in Germany.
Required Skills
Education
FH Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Protection, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Technology, Environmental Engineering, Water Management, Civil Engineering (with focus on Water Management), Geosciences (with focus on Hydrogeology), or comparable field; or eligibility for the higher technical or scientific administrative service in the federal administration.
Experience
- Professional experience in environmental protection and environmental law (especially water protection) is advantageous
- Practical experience in environment-related facility monitoring is advantageous
- Relevant administrative experience is advantageous
- Knowledge of administrative and railway law is advantageous
Languages
Additional
- Driver's license Class B required; Willingness to undertake occasional full-day or multi-day business trips; Track suitability (analogous to G25 examination) required (testing provided by the employer); Must be willing to accept a five-year fixed-term contract; Must be eligible for transfer/secondment if currently a civil servant.
