Research Associate / PhD Student in Space Systems | Doktorand (m/w/d)
Technische Universität Dresden
Job Summary
This full-time PhD position, funded by the MSCA Doctoral Network SLICE, is based at TUD Dresden University of Technology within the Institute of Aerospace Engineering. The successful candidate will focus on a critical research project investigating the propagation and climate impact of emissions generated by ablation during the re-entry of launch vehicles. Key tasks include defining interface regions, conducting numerical analysis of emission propagation in the near field, and performing multiscale simulations of residual expansion across different atmospheric layers. The role requires solid knowledge in aerospace engineering, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), physical chemistry, and numerical analysis. The position is highly interdisciplinary, demanding strong independent work skills, excellent communication, and the ability to meet strict deadlines, with required secondments in Belgium and Germany to collaborate on model interfaces and trajectory coupling.
