Job Summary

This role is a fixed-term, part-time (65%) position at the Werner Siemens Chair of Synthetic Biotechnology at the Technical University of Munich, offering the opportunity to pursue a PhD. The successful candidate will focus on the isolation, characterization, and optimization of enzymes and microorganisms for producing industrial platform chemicals, specifically focusing on the biotechnological conversion of biogenic residues into valuable substances. Day-to-day tasks involve developing and optimizing enzymatic hydrolysis of plant residues, conducting lab-scale degradation and recycling experiments, and analyzing reactions using advanced spectroscopic and chromatographic methods (GPC, LC-MS, MALDI-TOF, FTIR, Raman). The role requires cultivating fungi for peroxidase extraction, participating in scale-up experiments (up to 50 kg), supervising students, and maintaining project communication and reporting in both German and English. This is an attractive opportunity for a creative and organized team player with a background in biotechnology and molecular biology seeking a challenging research environment with state-of-the-art equipment.
