Job Summary

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon is seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist to join the German Engineering Materials Science Centre (GEMS) in Geesthacht, near Hamburg. This role focuses on the development of cutting-edge neutron scattering and imaging instruments for engineering materials research, specifically for a new compact accelerator-driven neutron source in Germany. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing instrument concepts, performing numerical calculations of performance, and conducting Monte-Carlo ray-tracing simulations using tools like McStas or Vitess. The successful candidate will also pursue independent scientific research, publish results, and collaborate closely with internal GEMS colleagues and external partners like Forschungszentrum Jülich. This position requires a PhD in physics or a related field, expertise in neutron scattering instrumentation, and strong skills in simulation and materials science. The initial contract is limited until December 31, 2027, offering an exciting opportunity in international research.
