Job Summary

This is an exciting EU MSCA Doctoral Researcher position (DC11) in Materials Engineering, hosted by Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon in Geesthacht, Germany, with the PhD degree awarded by Kiel University. The core focus is the mechanistic study of biodegradation in additively manufactured Magnesium and Zinc alloys under dynamic mechanical load and corrosive environments. The successful candidate will design and optimize complex experimental setups for simultaneous mechanical testing and localized corrosion measurements, including monitoring of pH and dissolved gas concentrations at the metal-electrolyte interface. This role requires a Master's degree in Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field, along with documented experience in research. Applicants must adhere strictly to the MSCA mobility rule, ensuring they have not resided in Germany for more than 12 months in the past three years. This position offers advanced research training within the prestigious Print4Life network, focusing on the future of biomaterials and additive manufacturing.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree in Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Engineering Physics, or equivalent qualification.

Experience

  • Documented knowledge and experience in Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, or related engineering fields.
  • Professional experience in planning and carrying out independent research work.
  • Advantageous: Experience in corrosion characterization and mechanical testing.
  • Advantageous: Experience in local electrochemistry or surface characterization techniques.
