Job Summary

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon is seeking a Data Scientist to join the Institute for Coastal Systems – Analysis and Modeling in Geesthacht. This role is crucial for the BMBF WAKOS project and the sustainMare research mission, focusing on developing interactive web tools to provide non-expert users with easy access to current coastal climate information. Day-to-day tasks involve extensive scientific data analysis concerning socially relevant issues like coastal climate change and offshore energy. The ideal candidate will design and implement digital, regional-specific web tools, further developing and maintaining the coastal climate information platform. Key requirements include a university degree in a geoscientific field (e.g., hydrology, oceanography), experience with automated data processing, specifically using NetCDF format, and proficiency with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise solutions. Strong German and English communication skills are mandatory for effective coordination with project partners.

Completed university degree in a geoscientific field (Geoinformatics, Geography, Hydrology, Oceanography, Meteorology, or similar)

Experience

  • Experience in automated processing and analysis of scientific data in NetCDF format
  • Experience with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise solutions
  • Expertise in coastal research and climate change
  • Initial experience in scientific publishing (Desirable)
  • Experience in dealing with customers/users (Desirable)
