Doctoral Candidate (PhD) in Materials Engineering and Corrosion Science | PhD position - Ad Print4Life DC14
Helmholtz-Zentrum hereon GmbH
Job Summary
This PhD position, part of the prestigious EU-funded Print4Life Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) doctoral network, focuses on the mechanistic study of high corrosion susceptibility in additively manufactured biodegradable Magnesium (Mg) and Zinc (Zn) alloys. The successful candidate will be based at Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon in Germany, earning a PhD degree from Kiel University. Day-to-day tasks involve developing the research project by conducting micro- and nanoscopic visualization of micro-galvanic activity using advanced techniques like in situ SEM/TEM, EBSD, X-ray tomography (at DESY), and Scanning Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy (SKPFM). The core objective is to unveil the driving force of corrosion onset and propose practical strategies to reduce degradation rates. Key requirements include a Master’s degree in Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related engineering field, and strong English communication skills. The role offers advanced research training, international collaboration, and mandatory research stays in Sweden and Portugal.
