Job Summary

This is a leadership role at the Helmut-Schmidt-University/University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg, leading the Laboratory for Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering, with a primary research focus on Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC). The successful candidate will manage the lab's personnel, IT infrastructure, and equipment acquisition, ensuring operational readiness and continuous development. A key part of the role involves leading and steering scientific personnel and research activities, including conducting independent research in EMC, presenting findings at international conferences (often in English), and supporting the acquisition of third-party funding from public and industrial partners. Additionally, the role includes significant teaching responsibilities in Electrical Engineering fundamentals and EMC, supervising student theses, coordinating lab exercises, and conducting examinations. This is a permanent, civil servant position (A13h/A14 BBesG) offering an attractive public sector salary and flexible working arrangements.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree, Diplom (University), or equivalent scientific degree in Electrical Engineering or a comparable field; Qualification for the higher civil service of the Federal Government is required.

Experience

  • Professional experience in scientific teaching (e.g., organizing and conducting lectures, exercises, lab practicals in German and English)
  • Professional experience in the acquisition, leadership, and administration of industry-related research projects in EMC
  • Multi-year experience in the field of EMC
  • Experience in the use and operation of EMC measurement technology facilities (preferably not less than three years)
  • Experience in independent scientific work (preferably demonstrated by a PhD in Electromagnetism or a comparable field)
