Job Summary

This is a challenging and responsible role as a Head of Division/Officer within the State Agency for Nature, Environment, and Climate (LANUK) in North Rhine-Westphalia, focusing specifically on Hydrology and Hydrometeorology. The successful candidate will lead and scientifically support research and development projects for the hydrometeorological measuring network and the large lysimeter facility. Day-to-day tasks include conceptualizing and overseeing the setup of a soil moisture measuring network, contributing to the operation and development of the flood warning service, and ensuring the future viability and technical advancement of measurement infrastructure. This position requires a Master's degree in a relevant natural science or technical field, expertise in hydrometeorology or hydrogeology, and strong skills in data management, analysis, and external collaboration with research institutions. It offers a secure, permanent position in public service with flexible working hours and opportunities for professional development, contributing meaningfully to environmental protection and water management in NRW.

Required Skills

Education

University Diploma or Master's degree in Hydrometeorology, Hydrogeology, Meteorology (with focus on Hydrology/Soil), Environmental Sciences, Soil Water Balance, Geography, or a suitable technical/natural science field. Accredited Master's degree from a University of Applied Sciences is also accepted (accreditation proof required).

Experience

  • Experience in the acquisition and execution of Research and Development (R&D) projects
  • Knowledge in the operation and maintenance of lysimeter facilities, hydrometeorological, and soil measuring networks/stations
  • Knowledge in measurement data acquisition, verification, and processing using relevant hydrological specialized software
  • Familiarity with databases and measurement data management systems
