Job Summary

This role is for a highly motivated Research Associate and Doctoral Candidate focusing on traffic safety and reliability within the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Safety Technology at the University of Wuppertal. The successful candidate will contribute to a research project developing planning tools that incorporate topographical influences on behavior, interactions, and accidents, specifically focusing on safety at intersections. Day-to-day tasks involve utilizing model-based and computer-aided methods to analyze and simulate urban mixed traffic. Key responsibilities include reviewing the state-of-the-art in microscopic mixed traffic models, identifying critical intersections in Solingen and Wuppertal, collecting trajectory data via video analysis, developing and calibrating models, and implementing them in the SUMO simulation platform. This position requires a Master's degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Engineering, strong programming skills, and a keen interest in traffic flow theory and the modeling of dynamic systems. The role is designed to facilitate a doctoral procedure, offering a fixed-term contract for up to three years.
