Job Summary

Join the German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach am Main as an IT Network Specialist, focusing on Wide Area Communication (WAN) and associated network services. This role is crucial for providing secure and high-performance IT communication infrastructures for the DWD and approximately 25,000 employees across the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) agencies. Day-to-day responsibilities include independently managing complex WAN issues, planning, testing, and operating modern communication links, and providing conceptual consulting and migration support for WAN connections within the BMDV environment. You will also analyze complex operational disruptions, prepare service provider contracts, and ensure continuous development of infrastructure in line with current technology standards and IT security requirements. The ideal candidate holds a Master's degree in a relevant technical field and possesses comprehensive experience in communication technologies, WAN components, and network-adjacent services like DNS and LDAP.

Required Skills

Education

University Diploma or Master's degree, preferably in Computer Science, Mathematics, Communications Engineering, or Electrical Engineering. Equivalent foreign educational qualifications must be provided.

Experience

  • Comprehensive knowledge in communication technologies and protocols
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Wide Area Networks (WAN) and their components
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in network-adjacent services (e.g., DNS, LDAP, NTP)
  • Knowledge and experience in network security and its components
  • Knowledge and experience with leading IT projects for implementing new procedures in WANs
