Job Summary

The Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) is seeking a Geoinformatics Specialist to join the Maritime Data Center in Hamburg. This role is crucial for developing and implementing a future-oriented raster data management system, primarily using the open-source software Rasdaman. Day-to-day responsibilities include the conception, planning, and technical execution of database infrastructure for multi-dimensional raster data, integrating these into the existing Geodata Infrastructure (GDI). The specialist will also be responsible for creating and maintaining OGC-compliant services (e.g., WCS, WCPS) and ETL processes, alongside creating comprehensive technical documentation and providing training to users and administrators. The ideal candidate holds a Master's degree in Geoinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field, and possesses strong knowledge of OGC standards, SQL, Linux, and scripting languages like Python. This is a temporary position, expected to last until March 18, 2027, covering maternity and parental leave, offering work in an agile, collaborative environment with modern IT infrastructure.

Required Skills

Education

Completed scientific university degree (Master, Diploma, or comparable qualification) in Geoinformatics, Computer Science, Environmental or Geoscience, or a comparable field.

Experience

  • Professional experience working with raster data
  • Professional experience working with spatial databases
  • Foundational knowledge in SQL, Linux, scripting languages, FME, and Rasdaman
  • Secure handling of OGC standards (WMS, WFS, WCS, WCPS)
