Job Summary

This role is for a Certified Food Chemist to manage a laboratory section focused on Organic Contaminants and Environmental Analysis within the Hessian State Laboratory (LHL) in Wiesbaden. The successful candidate will be responsible for independent sample planning, organizing the lab area, managing analytical measurement technology, and handling the evaluation, release, and reporting of test results. Key tasks include developing and validating new sample preparation and analysis methods according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 standards, and performing instrumental analysis of organic contaminants in food, feed, and environmental samples using advanced techniques like HPLC, LC-MS/MS, GC-ECD, and GC-FID. The position requires a completed second state examination in Food Chemistry, strong analytical skills, experience with instrumental analysis, and the ability to provide legal assessments and expert opinions on food law matters. This is a permanent, full-time position offering a varied and responsible role within a motivated, team-oriented public service environment.

Required Skills

Education

Completed University Degree in Food Chemistry with successfully completed 2nd State Examination (Staatsexamen)

Experience

  • Successfully completed 2nd State Examination in Food Chemistry
  • Knowledge in the investigation and assessment of food, cosmetics, and consumer goods
  • Knowledge of chemical analytics, including experience with instrumental measurement technology
  • Professional experience in instrumental analytics, especially using GC, HPLC, and LC-MS/MS (advantageous)
  • Experience in the validation of test procedures
  • Experience in food law assessment (advantageous)
