Job Summary
This role involves shaping the future of sustainable aviation by focusing on the safety, reliability, and certification of novel hybrid-electric propulsion systems for civil transport aircraft at the German Aerospace Center (DLR). The successful candidate will develop certification strategies and validation methods for these advanced systems, manage requirements throughout the development lifecycle up to the demonstrator level, and technically evaluate the integration of these drives into aircraft while adhering to stringent safety and regulatory criteria (EASA, FAA). Day-to-day tasks include participating in experimental testing, leading project work including scientific publications, and managing a research team focused on reliability and safety analyses. This position is ideal for an experienced professional with deep expertise in aerospace regulation and safety standards (ARP 4754/4761) seeking to influence future international certification standards.
Required Skills
Education
Completed scientific university degree (Master/University Diploma) in Natural Sciences (e.g., Mathematics or Physics) or Engineering Sciences (e.g., Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering) or other relevant fields.
Experience
- Long-term practical research experience in aerospace systems or components, demonstrated through a PhD or equivalent research activities
- Long-term application-oriented experience in the industrial aerospace environment, specifically in the development and certification of aircraft or propulsion systems
- Expertise in certifying aerospace devices considering regulatory requirements (e.g., EASA, FAA)
- Experience in applying aerospace standards like ARP 4754/4761
- Experience in conducting safety-relevant analyses (e.g., FMEA, FTA, HAZOP)
- Experience in direct communication with certification authorities (LBA, EASA, FAA)

- This is a fixed-term employment contract for 3 years. The role is based in Cottbus, Germany. The position is open to experienced professionals (Berufserfahrene).
