Job Summary

This role seeks an outstanding, science-driven Postdoctoral Researcher to develop and apply advanced multi-scale simulation tools for metallic materials, specifically focusing on Friction Stir Welding (FSW). The core responsibilities involve implementing a physics-based process model for FSW, utilizing methods like Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) and crystal plasticity to predict resulting microstructures. The researcher will formulate both micromechanical and macroscopic mean-field models, validating predictions of microstructures and residual stresses against experimental data from collaborative partners. Key requirements include a PhD in Materials Science, Computational Engineering, or Physics, strong expertise in numerical methods for solid mechanics (including large plastic deformations), and demonstrated programming proficiency in Fortran and Python. This position offers substantial freedom to implement creative solutions within a top international and interdisciplinary research environment.
