Job Summary

This full-time, temporary position (running from January 2026 to December 2027) at the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut supports a federally funded research project focused on midge-transmitted viruses impacting livestock. The Biological Laboratory Technician will be responsible for key tasks including the sorting and preparation of midge catches for viral investigation, potentially conducting midge collection fieldwork, and performing genetic identification and characterization, which involves supporting genome sequencing of midges and their microbiome. Additionally, the role includes maintaining midge colonies through breeding and husbandry in the insectarium and assisting with virus infection experiments. Candidates must possess a completed vocational degree as a Biological Laboratory Technician or Technical Assistant, fundamental molecular biology knowledge, and be proficient in standard IT applications like MS Office.
